The house in Willesden Green, North London, the third house shared by
various bits of KTP. In retrospect I feel terrible about what we did to
the neighbours - - this was a large semi-detached (i.e. shared a wall with
the house next door) family home in a nice middle class suburb. We were
looking for a big place so we could all live together, and this was the
only place we could find. Katherine and I dressed up in suits and
pretended we were very respectable yuppies, which is the only way we
could convince anyone to rent us such a property. Obviously we must have
been the neighbours from hell, and one time the man from next door did
come round and say we'd put his wife in hospital with a nervous
breakdown. This seemed really funny at the time. He and his wife had
come round many many times before, wheedling, cajoling and threatening,
but nothing they did could make us behave like decent human beings. You
can see from the photo that the house took a real bashing - - it gradually
fell to bits in our loving hands. When the landlords finally managed to
evict us some years later, we left behind something resembling a
bombsite.
